So, you’ve ordered your EasyBuild polytunnel, great choice. Whether you’re building it yourself or roping in a couple of extra hands, a little preparation goes a long way.

To help your build go as smoothly as possible, here are five simple tips that can make a big difference.

1. Get Your Tools Ready in Advance

You don’t need a full toolbox, just a few essentials will do:

  • Spade – for digging post holes if needed
  • Wire cutters – for trimming wiggle wire
  • String – for marking out your tunnel footprint
  • Spirit level – to make sure your hoops are upright
  • Tape measure – essential for foundation planning
  • Stanley knife & scissors – for trimming the cover neatly
  • Ladders – a pair is ideal when fitting the cover
  • Drill – with driver bit for self-drilling screws
  • 13mm spanner or socket – cordless ratchet wrench if you have one
  • Hammer – always useful!
  • Marking sticks/canes – for marking positions on the ground
  • 10mm masonry drill bit(for base plates only)

2. Choose a Calm Day

Polytunnel covers act like giant sails in the wind – not ideal. Plan your build for a day with light wind and dry conditions. It’s a much better experience (and safer) when you’re not fighting the weather.

3. Prepare the Ground Properly

A bit of prep helps:

  • Mark out the footprint using string or pegs before you begin.
  • Level the area if possible, it’ll make hoop installation and cover fitting much easier.
  • Clear any large stones, roots, or debris from the build area.

If you’re building over an existing raised bed, no problem, just make sure you can still access the frame and anchor points.

4. Familiarise Yourself With the Instructions

We include printed instructions in every kit, but you can also access them online here – along with a helpful video.

We recommend reading them through once before you start, even if you plan to wing it on the day (we get it 😉).

5. Check the FAQs and Support Resources

We’ve pulled together the most common questions and answers in our FAQs. Whether it’s about door options, site orientation, or anchoring advice, the answer is likely there.

Still stuck? Our support team is always happy to help, but a quick check of the resources can save time.

Bonus Tip: Don’t Rush

Even though it’s called EasyBuild, take your time and enjoy the process. It’s one of the most satisfying parts of setting up your growing space, and the payoff is a polytunnel that’ll last for years.
