Northern Polytunnels Single Span Polytunnels are far superior compared to our competitors, and to prove it, we'll happily match and beat any LIKE for LIKE quote. Simply Email us with your quote and we'll get right back to you.

Sizes - Standard or High Sided⇩

  • Our Single Span Polytunnels come in the following widths 18ft, 21ft, 24ft, 27ft & 30ft
  • Our standard inner height is 1.83 metres which gives a comfortable working height at either side up to within 30cms of the insides.
  • The High-sided option is a further 65cm higher, which reduces the rate of temperature increase.

Hoops Construction⇩

The 4-piece hoops connect to the straight leg - making the product stronger as it's unable to snake, it also gives the option for increasing the short leg width without compromising the stability of the Single Span. Other manufacturers of Polytunnels allow their connections on the curve of the hoop which compromises the strength meaning they need to use bracing brackets. This means extra materials, extra costs and looks poor.

Our steel tubes are coated with Armourguard - our unique high endurance tube which offers up to 20 times the corrosion resistance of pre-galvanised steel tube thanks to its revolutionary combined zinc, aluminium and magnesium coating. In house manufactured ring fittings over Ubolts Heavy-duty 2.5mm wall ground tubes Sheet tensioning system Wiggle Wire C channel a standard over hoops which gives a flat covering on the end, making it easier to fit the polythene which not only looks better but is easier to replace.

Gable Ends⇩

  • Single Span Basic - The gable ends on our Singe Span Standard range are made with 75x75mm C24 Timber which is bigger, stronger and longer-lasting.
  • Single Span Professional - These come with a Steel Tubular Gable-end option with wiggle wire fixing - Unique to Northern Polytunnels
  • Single Span Premium - Aluminium Gable end with wiggle wire box end - Unique to Northern Polytunnels.
  • Having a wiggle wire C channel fitting gives the end profile of the Single Span a flat end panel that is both aesthetically pleasing to see but is also easy to fit.

Polytunnel Cover⇩

The Cover Tensioning System - Using a bespoke turnkey solution, the collar tensioning system enables a quick and easy tensioning of the polytunnel cover throughout the lifespan. Unlike some manufacturers, our system allows easy tightening and slackening throughout the lifespan of the SingleSpan

Side vents⇩

The Draft Free Skirt has been proven to reduce the risk of low drafts that can enter the polytunnel which is better for the plants. A winding handle on the outside allows easier access to the ventilation system.

  • Single Span Basic Our standard ventilation curtain made from Lumisol Diffused is easily rolled up and down. The screen is a standard net with the PVC skirt stitched on to it.
  • Single Span Professional The PVC curtain is a bespoke material exclusive to Northern Polytunnels with Keder on one side. The screen is a standard net with the PVC skirt that has Keder fixings on one side, making it easier to connect. Aluminium drive tube
  • Single Span Premium The PVC curtain is a bespoke material exclusive to Northern Polytunnels with Keder on both sides. The screen is a standard net with the PVC skirt that has Keder fixings on both sides making the fittings, quick and easy. Aluminium Drive Tube Aluminium box base rails

Crop bars⇩

Crop bars give the structure added strength but are also used for suspending irrigation spray lines, tying up crops such as tomatoes and vines or for suspending hanging baskets.

  • V hanger crop bars - sufficient throughout most of the UK
  • W hanger crop bars - used in more extreme locations on wider tunnels

Base rails / Side rails⇩

The Base Rails, Side Rails and End Frames come in two options:

  • Timber base and side rails - Tanalised 100mm x 50mm (4”x 2”) Tanalised 75mm x 75mm (3”x 3”) timber end frames which have a life expectancy of around 20 years. Available on our Basic & Professional Single Spans.
  • Aluminium - Although more expensive than wood, these are much stronger and will last a lifetime. - Only available on Premium Single Spans

Foundation Options⇩

    Traditional Foundation Tube

This involves digging a series of holes (approx. 50 x 50 x 50cm) and concreting them in to the ground with approx half of the foundation tube protruding above ground level. It’s the weight of the concrete which provides the basis for the anchorage. Although this is the most popular option you need to consider the cost of the concrete and the work/machinery involved.

    Base Plates

Where a polytunnel is being erected on a concrete base we offer our ‘base plate’ foundation option. These are short foundation tubes that are welded onto a thick steel plate. The plate has four holes to accommodate the sleeve anchors with which to secure the foundation tubes. Sleeve anchors are provided.

Polythene options⇩

    Lumisol Clear

Lumisol Clear is a UV ’open’ polythene film, allowing UV light to reach your plants. This can have many benefits for both edible and ornamental crops, such as enhancing the fragrance, taste, colour, earlier harvesting and longer post-harvest shelf life. In addition, UV open films promote plant anti-oxidants which are good for plant health and encourage stronger plants.

Due to its clarity, clear polythene allows around 2% more light to enter your polytunnel than with a diffused polythene cover. This extra light brings extra heat which can be a benefit during the early and late months of the growing season. Especially popular in northern and western regions where lower light levels naturally occur.

  • Light transmission: Up to 92%
  • Thickness: 720 gauge
  • Thermic effect: Over 80%
  • Diffusion: Less than 35%

  • Lumisol Diffused

Light-diffusing polythene films scatter the light as it passes through the polythene. This enables the light to penetrate deep into the plant canopy, as it hits the plant from all directions, not just from the direction of the sun. This ‘diffused’ light reduces the higher foliage from shading the lower parts of the plant.

Lumisol Diffused is a UV ’open’ polythene film, allowing UV light to reach your plants. This can have many benefits for both edible and ornamental crops. Thanks to its unique anti-condensation additive, Lumisol Diffused is able to control condensation on the underside of the film.

  • Light transmission: Up to 90%
  • Thickness: 720 gauge
  • Thermic effect: Over 80%
  • Diffusion: 90%

  • Green/White Polythene (Blackout)

Green & white polythene is specially formulated to meet the needs of the mushroom grower. The green outer layer helps this cover blend in with the environment, whilst the white layer reflects internal lighting to provide a pleasant working environment. A black core layer ensures complete opacity (black-out) and contributes to the durability of the film.

  • Light transmission: Up to 0%
  • Thickness: 800 gauge
  • Thermic effect: N/A
  • Diffusion: N/A

  • White UVI Polythene

White UVI polythene produces shade and reduces daytime temperatures, allowing 60-70% light transmission. A thermic film developed to help keep the growing environment warmer by reducing the heat lost through long wavelength infra-red radiation. Higher overnight temperatures encourage plant growth, can reduce plant losses and allow savings to be made on heating.

  • Light transmission: 67% - 68%
  • Thickness: 720 gauge
  • Thermic effect: 55%
  • Diffusion: 32 - 33%

  • Full Net Covers

Our in-house fabrication department can produce net covers to any size. Our standard shade net covers are dark green with a 40%-45% shade value, but heavier shade values can be catered for. Our production method spaces the seams between 2m-3m apart (depending on the size), with the seams running parallel with the hoops (width-ways).
